Volunteers Turn Our Cranks....
Volunteering is the best way to get involved in your community. There's no shortage of opportunity around Community Spokes! The whole premise of the community shop is that volunteerism and donations provide a service, enabling people to benefit no matter what their socio-economic status. Volunteering at Community Spokes means helping people stay on their bikes, helping people stay fossil fuel free, keeping money in people's pockets, and contributing to a global environmental movement towards sustainability.

What do volunteers do?
Depending on your knowledge and skills, there are a variety of tasks to accomplish, and we need help with all of them. Those of us with mechanical knowledge can help run our open shop hours, where we assist folks that come in with bike troubles. Guiding people to fix their own bikes is the heart of our service, because knowledge is power. Please read our instruction philosophy below.
For those of us without mechanical knowledge, you can still help. A small amount of time helping to organize our small parts, labelling bikes, or being a door-greeter goes a long way. Lots of small jobs need to get done, like patching tires, taking out the garbage, de-spoking wheels and cleaning derailleurs.
Mix volunteering with learning by stripping some of our donated bikes - the best way to learn how something is put together is to take it apart! Simply take everything off the frame and store the parts in their proper places. It's also a great way to learn the layout of the shop.
